Access to Council’s facilities amended as restrictions lighten

Back

From Saturday 2 May 2020, the Queensland Government has lessened restrictions on movement in Queensland, so residents will have more opportunities to go outside for enjoyment.

With the easing of restrictions, South Burnett Regional Council would like to advise of the following amendments:

  • The lessening of restrictions includes specifically the introduction of non-essential activities that can be conducted within a 50km radius of your principal place of residence. Residents can now enjoy recreational activities within 50km of their home, including: going for a picnic; sitting on a park bench and enjoying your lunch or a coffee; having a driving lesson with members of your household; going on a motorbike ride or boat trip; going to the shops to buy things other than food or drink (eg. a bookstore or clothes shop).
  • For essential activities, you may travel greater than the 50km radius for a bona-fide reason, such as shopping for food; seeing a doctor or healthcare professional; work.
  • Residents still may now go out with people from their household, or if you go out as a single person you can have one other person join you.
  • Recent changes have seen the introduction of non-compliance with social distancing (1.5m) as an enforceable offence.

Facilities to be re-opened to the public include:

  • Dams and recreational areas – Day areas only (no camping), including a boat ramp, seating and limited public amenities
  • Public park furniture (playgrounds remain closed)
  • Street seating
  • National Parks (no camping) For specific information relating to the Bunya Mountains please see https://parks.des.qld.gov.au/parks/bunya-mountains/

The Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG), in conjunction with the Queensland Police Service (QPS) will be strictly enforcing these restrictions. The QPS will be maintaining a highly visible presence in high traffic areas along with patrolling high risk and recreational assets. The LDMG also reiterates, if you do not live within a 50km radius of the recreational asset, please do not access the area.

The LDMG welcomes the easing of restrictions and thanks the good work of all community members in preventing the spread and helping to ‘flatten the curve’. Council reminds residents to join us with ‘flattening the curve’ by ensuring hygiene practices are in place and minimising contact where possible.

Council, through the LDMG, continues to liaise with relevant authorities and will advise on any changes as they occur. Decisions on closures will continue to be reviewed in accordance with the Queensland Government advice. Council apologises for any inconvenience caused and appreciates your understanding and cooperation during this time.

Should you have any questions or concerns regarding these arrangements, please contact Council by phone on 4189 9100 or email.
