Is my property within the Defined Town Area?

The registration fee and the number of animals permitted on a property depends upon whether the property lies within the Defined Town Area.

See Animals Allowed by Property Size and Location to determine how many animals you are permitted to have on your property.

Declared dangerous, menacing & restricted dogs

Dogs which have been declared dangerous or menacing, or breeds that have been declared as restricted, are subject to additional fees and restrictions. See dangerous, menacing and restricted dogs for more information.

Animal registration tags

Tags are provided when an animal is registered or renewed and must be worn at all times. Exemptions may be granted - see Subordinate Local Law 2 (Animal Management) 2011.

Replacement of lost tags can be arranged by contacting Council on (07) 4189 9100.

Owners are encouraged to microchip their animals and submit the details to Council for ease of identification.

The Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008 requires:

  • All dogs that are born after 1 April 2009 to be microchipped prior to 12 weeks of age.
  • All dogs must be microchipped, if not already implanted when ownership of the animal changes.

Microchipping can be done at any veterinary surgery.
