Overdue Rates Collection Activities

Council wishes to advise ratepayers that it is about to step up its overdue rates collection activities and will be utilising the services of Recoveries and Reconstruction (Aust) Pty Ltd, an incorporated legal practice based on the Gold Coast that specialises in debt management and debt recovery. Land owners who have unpaid rates and do not have an approved, up to date payment arrangement should expect to receive a letter of demand next week from Recoveries and Reconstruction (Aust) Pty Ltd.

The letter of demand seeks payment of the outstanding rates within 14 days. Anyone who receives a letter of demand and has any queries should direct them straight to Recoveries and Reconstruction (Aust) Pty Ltd on telephone 1300 556 863.

Mayor Keith Campbell said “It is unfortunate that Council has been forced to take this action against ratepayers who have repeatedly ignored requests to pay their rates, or who have defaulted on their commitment to pay off their rates by instalments. The majority of people do pay their rates on time, or do maintain their payment commitments. To these people, Council says thank you.”

Council urges anyone who receives a letter of demand from Recoveries and Reconstruction (Aust) Pty Ltd to read and follow the instructions it contains. Failure to pay the overdue rates or to set up a payment commitment within the stated timeframe will result in further costly legal action.
