South Burnett Local Disaster Management Group – Update #2

Back

The South Burnett Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) met at 2.30pm this afternoon.

Due to the current rainfall that has been received in the South Burnett we will continue to see further roads flooded over the next 24/48 hours as the water comes down through the catchment.

Council crews will continue to work over the weekend to ensure roads are closed and monitored as water continues to run downstream.  We ask the community to be patient with road repairs and re-openings over the coming days and weeks. Some areas of the network are likely to be re-damaged given this is now the region’s 5th weather event in the past 8 months.  Bridges will need to be inspected prior to their reopening.  The community is requested to follow “Road Closed” and “Water over Road” signs.

Due to the weather now easing, we have closed the Nanango Evacuation Centre and the residents who were evacuated have been accommodated where necessary.

Strong winds will continue to impact our region and with the sodden soil, we ask people to be vigilant and safe.

South Burnett residents are advised:

  • In a life threatening emergency, call Triple Zero 000
  • For sandbagging / leaking roofs / roof damage, download the “SES Assistance QLD” app available on Android and Apple devices if phone lines are busy or call 132 500.
  • Impacts to roads e.g. flooded, damaged, please continue to call Council’s after hours team on 07 4189 9100.
  • TMR road closures can be located at 131940 – QLD Traffic website

Keep up to date on all road closures, weather warnings, flood warnings and emergency news on the South Burnett Disaster Dashboard http://dashboard.southburnett.qld.gov.au/.

Remember, water levels may change quickly across the region, and if it’s flooded forget it.
