South Burnett Regional Council receives water sustainability honour

Back

A South Burnett Regional Council strategy was recognised as one of the best public works projects in Queensland by the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia Queensland (IPWEAQ),

the peak body for the public works sector, at their annual conference in Cairns last week on Tuesday 12 October 2021.

Council shared recognition for the Total Asset Management Strategy (TAMS) project with GenEng Solutions and ATC Consulting in being highly commended in the Innovation & Sustainability in Water category.

The strategy established a 30-year planning framework for council-owned water and wastewater infrastructures.

Council Portfolio Holder for Water and Wastewater Councillor Roz Frohloff said the project will have a direct impact on communities in the South Burnett region helping not only residents and the environment, but also future stakeholders as well.

“This strategy also enhances the community, growth and opportunity within the industry, and has positive outcomes for the environment, infrastructure development and organisational excellence,” Councillor Frohloff said.

The project delivered numerous independent studies under dedicated project guidance ensuring integration with prior work and organisational knowledge as well as taking full advantage of significant concurrent studies. Studies addressed growth in demand, asset condition and projected renewal commitments, water security and financial sustainability.

The over-arching regional Asset Management Strategies for Water and Wastewater draws together all components and present recommendations in a format suited for consideration and adoption by Council. Importantly, financial recommendations guide Council’s consideration of full cost pricing and sustainability.
