Children’s Book Week at South Burnett Libraries

This year’s theme was “Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds”.

Highlights for this year’s Book Week included a scavenger hunt at each South Burnett libraries branch to complement the theme with 89 children joining in the fun, the First 5 Forever coordinator visiting eight schools as part of the outreach programme and the Kingaroy home-schooling group’s annual Book Week celebrations complete with a parade of creative costumes.

Councillor Danita Potter said it was tough choosing just three winners out of the 30 children that entered in the Kingaroy home-schooling group’s costume competition.

Councillor Potter said, “Thank you for all of your effort and creativity put into this year’s Book Week costumes. All children have worked hard on them and you can tell the passion they have for storytelling and literature.”

“I can’t wait to be back next year to see a new line up of costumes, interactive activities and the unity of book-lovers everywhere for Children’s Book Week,” said Councillor Potter.

Children’s Book Week is an annual event bringing children and books together, with schools and libraries celebrating the occasion with activities, costume parades, special reading sessions and other initiatives to inspire and encourage children to engage with literature, as well as celebrate achievements of Australian authors and illustrators.
