Cherbourg and South Burnett working together to look after Country

Back

See it. Report it. Stop illegal dumping.

The Local Government Illegal Dumping Partnerships Program (LGIDPP), a collaborative project between North Burnett Regional Council, South Burnett Regional Council and Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council, is a very positive way for Councils to build a relationship and look after Country.

On Thursday 15 July 2021 South Burnett Regional Council and Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council conducted a joint clean-up of an illegal dumping area. Illegally dumped material was collected, measured and correctly disposed of before undertaking investigations in order to identify and fine the offenders.

Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council is now installing signs to provide awareness and conducting compliance activities.

South Burnett Regional Council is providing assistance to identify and collect evidence of alleged illegal dumping offences and conducting compliance actions.

This programme has facilitated beneficial relationship building and enhancement between these Queensland councils, State Government and other stakeholders, with a mutual objective of creating cleaner, greener and more sustainable regions.

These groups are working in partnership to educate the public on illegal dumping, empower them to report it when they see it, and assist councils in taking action against offenders for greater liveability and quality of life in Queensland.

This project is proudly supported by the Queensland Government.

Sick of seeing rubbish in your community? Report illegal dumping by contacting Council’s Compliance Officer on 1300 789 279, 4189 9100 or email info@sbrc.qld.gov.au.
