South Burnett Regional Council supporting economic development and recovery

Back

To assist Queensland's economic recovery following COVID-19, temporary changes have been made to the planning framework to reduce red tape and simplify planning approvals.

This means Council can be more flexible and responsive in supporting economic activity in the community, enabling business to recommence, and development and construction to occur.

Council has adopted an economic support instrument which temporarily allows:

  • Change to the level of assessment for a development application for certain uses from impact to code assessment
  • Removal of the requirement for a development application to make a material change to the use of an existing building, as well as establish a home-based business

The adopted provisions in the economic support instrument will apply to the Planning Scheme until 18 September 2021, unless revoked by Council before this date.

Council further proposes to incorporate the provisions of the instrument in the amendment of the Planning Scheme, to be a permanent addition of the development requirements.

The adopted instruments will supplement the recently adopted Infrastructure Charges Incentives. This scheme allows for a discount of infrastructure charges for certain developments to support the economic recovery and development of the region.

Further details regarding the uses and zones included in the instrument is available on Council’s website or by contacting Council’s Planning team on 4189 9100 or info@sbrc.qld.gov.au.
