Powerlink to perform helicopter inspections January through to March

Back

To ensure the ongoing safety and reliability of Powerlink Queensland’s high voltage electricity network,

low-flying helicopters will carry out routine maintenance inspections of transmission lines across Wide Bay-Burnett January to March (weather permitting).

Powerlink specialist crews will carry out this work across the region including areas covering Apple Tree Creek, Argoon, Boompa, Booyal, Boynewood, Cania, Dallarnil, Dalysford, Durong, Eidsvold, Eidsvold West, Ellesmere, Gaeta, Gin Gin, Glenrae, Horse Camp, Ironpot, Kinnoul, Kumbia, Lawgi Dawes, Lower Wonga, Maidenwell, Moolboolaman, Moonford, Morganville, Mount Murchison, Tellebang, Theebine, Valentine Plains, Wallaville and Woolooga where Powerlink’s network is located. These inspections are an essential part of Powerlink’s maintenance activities and Powerlink aims to carry out the work with minimum disruption to local communities.

During the aerial inspections, the helicopter pilot will seek to maintain the maximum distance practically possible from houses, livestock and crops. Local residents may see the helicopter moving relatively quickly and at a low level along the transmission lines, and in some instances, it may need to pause to enable closer inspection of the lines.

To assist with raising awareness of these activities, Powerlink is:

  • updating their social media channels
  • including a list of planned inspections on their website.

Powerlink aims to be as quick and non-disruptive as possible, but there is potential for some noise during the inspections. They are also aware that low-flying helicopters have the potential to startle livestock.

As such, Powerlink is encouraging landholders with an easement on or near their property to register their contact details with them to receive more information about upcoming patrols in your area.

Visit the Powerlink website or contact Powerlink direct during business hours on FREECALL 1800 635 369 to find out more and register or update their contact details.
