Note:  All bins should be presented to the kerb the night before your collection day or by 6am the morning of your collection day. Collection vehicles may commence early on your nominated collection day. Please use Bin Usage Guidelines for further details.

Bin Usage Guidelines

Refer to the below guidelines to ensure safe and efficient collection of kerbside bins:

  • Bins must be placed at the kerb the evening prior to your collection day
  • All bins must be brought to the front of the property and the bin placed adjacent to the kerb and channel no further than half a metre with the lid opening facing the street
  • Where there is no kerb and channel, the bin should be placed in a safe location as close as possible to the verge of the road no further than half a metre and be visible to the driver
  • Bins must not be placed on the road
  • No overhanging branches or obstructions are to be above the bin
  • No obstructions are to be within half a meter of the bin e.g., signposts, power poles or parked cars
  • Where a group of bins is to be collected, e.g., flats, the bins should be placed at least half a meter apart and clear of cars, trees and other obstacles
  • Bins should not be overfilled as bins weighing over 70kg cannot be emptied by the waste collection truck
  • Jamming plastic wrapping, cardboard boxes, glass, etc., into the base of the bin may result in the bin not emptying completely; partial emptying of the waste bin is not the Council or contractor's fault
  • Residents must NOT place hot ashes or regulated waste (e.g., asbestos, tyres, etc.) into any of the bin
  • All waste trucks have cameras fitted and inappropriate use of the bins will be recorded and reported to the council.
  • Vacuum dust, kitty litter, smashed styrofoam, etc., should be placed in a bag before putting these items in the general waste bin, so they don't disperse when the bin is emptied
  • Bin lids must close completely, and materials should not protrude out of the top otherwise bins will not be emptied
  • Bins should be removed from the kerb as soon as practical after emptying to avoid risks of theft or damage

If your bin is damaged or has been missed for collection, it can be reported to the council using the mobile app – Recyclopedia. Damaged bins will be repaired or replaced at the discretion of waste collections contractor no cost to the resident.

Assisted Bin Collection

Physical incapacity may prevent some householders from placing their bin out for collection. An application can be made to allow residents to have their bin serviced from the front of their house (Assisted bin collection). An application form can be found in the Forms(PDF, 681KB) section. The application must be accompanied by a Doctor's Certificate.
