South Burnett Regional Council and Yurika (business unit of Energy Queensland) are currently constructing a new high speed telecommunication fibre to the South Burnett, with funding support from the Queensland Government. The project is valued at approximately $7M and will provide a new telecommunication pipeline capable of carrying up to 100GB per second with individual connections of up to 10GB per second available for businesses, schools and health providers.

The project follows the existing Energy Queensland network and will deploy in Kingaroy and Nanango with future stages possible for Wondai, Murgon, Cherbourg and Blackbutt. A major infrastructure telecommunication cabinet is currently being constructed in Kingaroy and Yurika commissioned local artists, Robert and Robyn Langton to provide a local indigenous artwork to form the cover or skin around the cabinet.

Yurika representative, Tony Riley with Robert and Robyn Langton’s original artwork presented to South Burnett Regional Council Mayor, Kathy Duff as part of the South Burnett NAIDOC Celebration at Memorial Park Kingaroy held on Thursday 10 July 2025.
