South Burnett Aquatic Centre Nanango to get a Poolpod
Published on 03 October 2025
The South Burnett Aquatic Centre in Nanango will soon be home to the region’s first Poolpod.
Council received more than $115,000 in grant funding from Heritage Nanango Community Funding Ltd. to purchase the Poolpod, which will be fitted to the 25m indoor heated pool on Saturday
4 October 2025. There will be a section of the pool closed off for public use during the installation.
What is a Poolpod? Developed in Glasgow, Scotland, the Poolpod is designed to help people who have mobility challenges, offering a dignified and independent way to enter and exit swimming pools. It can also be used by parents with young babies and anyone who find steps into the pool difficult.
Poolpod allows people to stand, sit or move a suitable wheelchair into the lift type structure, that then glides out onto the water, lowers into the water and allows a person to step off or swim off into the water.
“I am truly grateful to our community for the incredible support they’ve shown to Heritage Bank in Nanango. Because of this partnership, Heritage have been able to stand behind so many projects that have strengthened clubs and organisations throughout the Nanango area. This is just one of the many benefits we’ve all received, and this will make it possible for all to enjoy the 25m indoor heated pool," said Cr Jane Erkens.
Council officers visited other pools to investigate how the Poolpod assists with alternative access to the pool.
Heritage Bank Nanango is a joint venture between Heritage Bank and local residents, represented by Heritage Nanango Funding Ltd. The community’s share of profits is returned back into the area as grants to local organisations, charities and special community events.
An official opening for the Poolpod will be held before the end of the year.
