The South Burnett Regional Council boundary is located 60kms from the rabbit proof fence, however the region is experiencing an increase in rabbit populations.

Landholders are encouraged to monitor for rabbit activity, destroy warrens and known harbour, such as removing piles of old logs or bricks, removing dense weed infestation, clearing under old buildings and participating in coordinated pest animal control programs.

Council is calling on local landholders to take part in its upcoming winter Pindone rabbit baiting program, aimed at reducing the impact of invasive rabbits across the region.

Rabbits are a serious pest, causing significant damage to pastures, lawns, playing fields, crops, and native vegetation. By working together, landholders can achieve more effective control and help protect the region’s agricultural productivity and biodiversity.

Program Details:

  • Registration period: 12 June – 26 June 2026
  • Bait collection dates: 6 July – 10 July 2026
  • Location: Final collection points will be confirmed once participant locations have been assessed.
  • Cost: Free

Pindone bait is a registered and approved method for rabbit control. Council will provide guidance on safe handling and application to ensure compliance with all legal and environmental requirements.

Coordinated action is the most effective way to manage rabbit populations. By participating, you’re helping protect your property and the wider South Burnett community.
