Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) is coming up from 4–10 May 2026 and this year’s theme is Smart tech, smarter choices: Protecting your privacy in the age of AI.

Queenslanders expect public sector agencies to protect their personal information, including when we use AI. That is why the 2026 PAW theme is so relevant. It is a call to action for everyone to be more vigilant and proactive when it comes to protecting and respecting personal information – whether it is our own or held by a public sector agency.

We take privacy seriously and do everything we can to ensure personal information is protected and respected. Making smart choices about the technology we adopt and how we use it is critical. When we uphold privacy values, we demonstrate our commitment to protecting the community’s personal information which creates greater trust.

There are simple things you can do every day to better protect your privacy and personal information. Here are some helpful tips:

  1. Update your privacy and security settings on your devices.
  2. Be mindful of what you share on social media about yourself and others.
  3. Use multi-factor authentication to better protect your online accounts.
  4. Be wary of public wi-fi. Avoid using it for things like internet banking and never use it for work activities.
  5. Read terms and conditions and privacy policies when you sign up for a new service or app, so you know what you’re agreeing to and how your information will be shared or used.
  6. Better understand your privacy rights in Queensland by watching this short explainer video
