Blackbutt Water Quality

South Burnett Regional Council wishes to advise of changes to the raw water supply at the Blackbutt Treatment Plant. Council’s access to the Boondooma Dam primary supply has been temporarily disrupted for Blackbutt and will be supplied with 100% Boobir Dam raw water.

It is expected that there will be increased levels of dissolved Iron and Manganese which has caused discolouring when oxidised by chlorine. This may cause discolouration in some areas within the network. Council will continue to optimise the conventional treatment process to reduce the aesthetic colour.

Trials of pre-oxidation are underway, and Council is conducting an options analysis for all water treatment plants.

Council encourages residents to contact Council if they are experiencing discoloured water so that additional flushing works can be undertaken where possible.

Council apologises for any inconveniences this may cause and appreciates your patience while works are in progress.

For further information please contact Council’s Water and Wastewater team on 4189 9100 or email info@sbrc.qld.gov.au.
