Biosecurity Advisory Committee discusses regional priorities

South Burnett Regional Council and Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council Biosecurity Advisory Committee held its quarterly meeting on Thursday 27 August 2026 at the Taabinga Room at the Queensland Government Kingaroy Research Facility, Department of Primary Industries. The meeting focused on biosecurity matters affecting the region and on developing suggestions and draft plans to assist landowners.

Representatives from South Burnett Regional Council, Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council, Toowoomba Regional Council, Western Downs Regional Council, and North Burnett Regional Council attended the meeting, along with representatives from the Department of Primary Industries, Biosecurity Queensland, local wild dog and feral pig syndicate groups, Burnett Catchment Care Association, and the community.

Attendees spent the morning discussing a range of regional biosecurity topics and working together on practical suggestions and draft plans to support landowners.

Council provided an update from its NRM team on the Coordinated Rabbit Baiting and Wild Dog and Feral Pig Control programs. The Coordinated Wild Dog and Feral Pig Control program is scheduled for Monday 19 to Friday 23 October 2026.

Council’s NRM team will also attend Kewpie Rural Roundup on Wednesday 16 September 2026.

Biosecurity Queensland and the Department of Primary Industries provided an update, including confirmation that new Biosecurity Officers will be based at the Kingaroy branch. The officers will assist with animal management in the region, including cattle ticks.

Burnett Catchment Care Association provided an update on upcoming workshops, including two Giant Rats Tail Grass – Weed Information Sessions scheduled for Wednesday 9 and Thursday 10 September 2026 at Inverlaw and Cloyna.
