Representatives from the South Burnett Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) and Local Disaster Recovery Group (LDRG) met for their quarterly meeting, focusing on pre-season preparedness activities, capability updates, and coordination efforts ahead of the current severe weather season.
Due to legislation changes Disaster Management Amendment Regulation 2025, the LDMG Chair who was previously Cr Danita Potter has been changed to Mayor Kathy Duff effective as of 1 December 2025. The Act specifies that Mayors should be the Chair of the LDMG unless otherwise appointed by the Mayor. In this case, Mayor Kathy Duff is excited to step up as LDMG Chair and Cr Danita Potter will move to LDRG Chair. The LDMG and LDRG thanked their respective chairs for their hard work to date with the groups.
“I would like to thank everyone for their support while I was in the of LDMG Chair and I would specifically like to thank the Council staff especially Donna Brown for everything she does. While I am disappointed at having to step down from the LDMG Chair role due to the recent changes to the Queensland Disaster Management Arrangements through the Disaster Management Amendment Regulation 2025 which commenced on 1 December. I am looking forward to taking up the role of LDRG Chair as that was one of my first official positions when I first entered Council in 2016 and, I still get to work with an amazing team,” said Cr Danita Potter.
Mayor Duff said “I would like to sincerely thank Cr Danita Potter for the important role that she has played over the period that she has been the LDMG chair. Cr Danita has done a wonderful job and I know she will do a great job in her new role leading the Disaster Recovery Team.”
These meetings strengthen relationships between agencies and ensure all supporting organisations remain connected, coordinated, and aligned.
