Cr Gavin Jones and I attended a successful Reconciliation event in the Blackbutt Hall as part of Reconciliation week. It was the first one they have held and I think they plan to make it an annual event. Congratulations must go particularly to Val McGrath who is leading the committee. Our Council has received a NAIDOC Grant of $2700 from the Department of Prime Minister in Cabinet. We are planning to hold another NAIDOC celebration in the Forecourt in partnership with the Kingaroy Hospital. It will be on Thursday 12 July. Cr Danita Potter, Cr Roz Frohloff and Jocelyn Clancy from the Kingaroy Hospital are helping me to organise it. We plan to follow the Wondai NAIDOC celebrations instead of clashing as we did last year. They finish at 11.30am so we will start with lunch. The activities including an official ceremony will go into the afternoon. It would be fantastic to see lots of people again this year following on from the success of last year’s inaugural event.
