Mt Wooroolin Trunk Water Main

Work has continued on the 500mm trunk main and is progressing well with some 80% of pipe laid and all materials procured. The project is expected to be complete by the end of June, with some delays incurred due to the size of the pipe and difficult terrain. Connection to the Mt Wooroolin Reservoir and Haly Street Pump Station will be undertaken immediately following the main testing.

Class A Recycled Water Plants – Murgon and Wondai

Tenders for the Murgon and Wondai Recycled Water Plants were called on 28th May. A site inspection was held on the 6th June with some 14 Companies attending. Other enquiries have also been received. The new plants will allow irrigation of fields and facilities to be more easily managed to meet safety standards by improving water quality to a Class A standard.

Cr’s Frohloff and Heit met with members of the Wondai Sportsground Committee to discuss the upgrade and likely cost of future Class A recycled water. The meeting was not well attended with only 4 clubs represented on the evening. Acting Manager Allen Christensen provided an updated on the progress and likely future cost of the water and restrictions around its use.

Hydrant Maintenance

The program has progressed well with initial cleaning complete in Nanango and flow testing progressing with around 25% of all hydrants tested. Murgon is complete and Wondai approximately 25% complete with flow testing yet to be done. This program will be ongoing and will ensure these critical infrastructure assets are functional when they are most needed and has identified a number of assets that require further investigation.

Dam Levels

Dam levels continue to drop with no inflows during April meaning water restrictions within all town water supplies in the South Burnett Region will remain at Level 3 restriction levels until significant inflows to the major dams are received.

Allocations within the Barker Barambah and Boondooma - Tarong system are being closely monitored and it is likely that Council will approach its full allocation in the Boondooma system by the 30 June. Announced allocations for 2018/19 water year have not yet been released but may be lower than 100%, which will be a trigger for more stringent restrictions.

Nanango Bore Testing

Due to a pump failure in the Nanango bore field, 100 hour pump tests are being undertaken on the bores prior to pump replacement. This will ensure that the correct sized pump is purchased for the bore capacity and give us further confidence in the bore field reliability.
