The South Burnett Regional Council is proud to support NAIDOC Week and is hosting a NAIDOC Celebration at the Kingaroy Town Hall Forecourt on Thursday 12 July 2018 from 12 midday – 2.00pm.

In the spirit of the NAIDOC Week 2018 theme, ‘‘Because of her, we can!’, everyone is invited to the Kingaroy Town Hall Forecourt to learn more about the important contributions that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have made and continue to make within our community.

The Kingaroy NAIDOC Celebration will commence with a Welcome to Country Ceremony performed by Cherbourg Mayor Arnold Murray, followed by a presentation from guest speaker Max Conlon – the well-known Cherbourg Aboriginal artist from the Kabi Kabi tribe.

The celebration will showcase traditional dance performances by the Wakka Wakka people, emu egg carving demonstrations, dreamtime story-telling and a display from Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service. A FREE sausage sizzle, damper, tea and coffee will be provided.

South Burnet Mayor, Keith Campbell said, “I look forward to celebrating NAIDOC Week this year. This is a great chance for all of us to remind ourselves of the rich and unique history, culture and language of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and to recognise their great contribution to our community. I encourage everyone to get involved.”

NAIDOC events will take place across the nation during NAIDOC Week (8-15 July).

The South Burnett Regional Council received a grant of $2,700 from The Australian Government Indigenous Advancement Strategy to partially fund this event.

Kingaroy Town Hall Forecourt is easily accessible from Glendon Street with plenty of parking available.
