Get Ready Week 2020

Back

Get Ready Queensland Week 2020 will be held from 12 to 18 October 2020.

The week is a call to action for all Queenslanders to prepare their homes and communities and get ready for 2020/21 severe weather season.

The Bureau of Meteorology last week announced the predicted wetter than average conditions this year due to the formation of a La Nina in the tropical Pacific.

Now is the time to prepare your household and community to protect what matters most and take the pressure off emergency services.

During Get Ready Week, Council will be providing many resources, links and videos for your family to build resilience to ensure you are well equipped to deal with extreme weather and natural disasters which is part of our State.

Being resilient is about more than just good preparation or effective responding. It is about accepting that extreme weather is part of living in our region, and preparing to handle it accordingly.

Getting ready for storm season isn’t as scary as it sounds. It’s as simple as making a basic plan if your pets are home alone, to check on your neighbours, what to do if you’re separated from your family members and where to go should you need to evacuate.

So please join our team this week by following Council’s Facebook page for resources, tools, games and competitions for you and your family to be prepared this season.

We acknowledge Queensland Reconstruction Authority and Get Ready Queensland for this year’s annual campaign.
