Start your engines…..

Back

Come along to the South Burnett Energy Centre this Saturday 3 October and view the firing of the historic interactive engine display…

The heritage listed engine supplied power to the Nanango butter factory, along with the town’s 18 street lights. It is rumoured that when the street lights were first powered on 23 March 1933, the town partied for seven whole days.

The South Burnett Energy Centre reflects the past, the people and the energy technology that developed the region and continues to mould its future. The visually exciting displays are located in a building formerly owned by Tarong Coal and incorporate a number of time lines and interactive displays as well as the original engines that supplied energy to Nanango for the first time in 1933.

The engine was last run in June 2019 prior to the temporary six month re-location of the South Burnett Regional Council Nanango Customer Service Centre and Library during renovations of the main Council Administration Office.

Whilst the engine was out of action, Council took the occasion to perform a service, clean the injectors and extend the exhaust.

Council would like to take the opportunity to thank staff from the Antique Machinery Restoration Society of Queensland (AMRSQ) - from the Caboolture Historical Village, along with local volunteers Trevor George and Robbie Kelton who assisted with repairs.

The South Burnett Energy Centre will perform a run of the engine on the first Saturday of each month (at approx 11am) in conjunction with the Nanango Markets.
