New dam managers appointed for Boondooma and Yallakool

Back

South Burnett Regional Council is pleased to advise that new managers have now been appointed at both Boondooma & Yallakool dams.

Council would like to extend congratulations to Doug and Kath Hughes, returning managers of the Lake Boondooma Caravan and Recreation Park, along with Heath and Rowena Sanders who were successful with their Expression of Interest for Tourist Park Managers for Yallakool Caravan and Recreation Park on Bjelke-Petersen Dam.

Overall, Council received 14 Expressions of Interest for the tourist park manager positions, with Council progressing nine interviews.

Both couples are highly motivated, passionate and experienced in caravan and accommodation principle. They care about the community and the image that is portrayed when people visit our region, and are committed to developing mutually beneficial partnerships with Council, businesses and community groups in order to maximise the economic and social benefits that tourism brings to the South Burnett region.

Returning managers of Lake Boondooma Caravan and Recreation Park, Doug and Kath Hughes said, “We believe in doing things properly, with attention to detail, on time and on budget.”

Doug and Kath bring a wealth of experience, as evidenced through their previous employment by Sustainable Park Solution as the resident park managers at Lake Boondooma Caravan & Recreation Park from December 2019 and caretakers for the Esk Caravan Park & Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Motel from April 2019 through to December 2019.

New managers of Yallakool Park on BP Dam, Murgon locals Heath and Rowena Sanders said, “Above and beyond all, we care!”

Heath and Rowena have been involved locally with the Murgon Music Muster as Co-Chairs from 2016 through to 2020 and have been instrumental in structuring a new look muster, promotion, booking camp sites (unpowered/powered) and cleaning of amenities. Heath is also President of the Murgon Rotary (2017–2021) and Assistance Governor for District 9600 (2019-2021).

With the opening of overnight accommodation at both Lake Boondooma Caravan and Recreation Park and Yallakool Caravan Park on BP Dam in August, our new managers will hit the ground running. The re-openings have been highly anticipated by locals and visitors alike.

Due to COVID-19 requirements all accommodation including unpowered sites must be pre-booked and all guests will have to complete a guest declaration and pre-check in form. Please see the relevant dam website for booking information. Accommodation bookings are now open and can be made online at:
