Noise can disrupt sleep and interfere with daily activities.  If the noise is loud enough it can also have a detrimental impact on peoples' health.

Council is responsible for regulating:

  • Air conditioning noise
  • Amplifier devices - loud-hailer's, megaphones, public address systems etc
  • Animal noise
  • Building work noise
  • Pumps - water tanks, pool and spa
  • Power boat engine noise
  • Refrigeration Equipment noise
  • Tools and maintenance noise - generators, lawn mowers, edge cutters, leaf blowers, nail guns, chainsaws etc 

Lodging a Complaint with Council 

To make a complaint to Council about a nuisance issue you will need to put your complaint in writing.  Council accepts the following forms of complaints:

Include the following:

  • Name, address and phone number - this information is kept confidential
  • Nuisance description - include as much information as you can, date, time, description,  source address etc 

 

People are sometimes unaware that their activities are causing a nuisance. South Burnett Regional Council encourages all residents and business operators to talk to their neighbours about nuisance problems before making a complaint. 

Council is not responsible for:

  • Noise from music, parties, loud speakers - contact the local Police
  • Noisy vehicles and trail bikes - contact the local Police
  • Burglar alarms - contact the local Police
  • Native animals and birds, such as crows and magpies - contact Parks and Wildlife Toowoomba on 07 4639 4599
  • Noise from premises with a liquor licence - contact the Department of Tourism and Racings Liquor Licensing Division, Ernie Vlasits on 07 4197 9830 
  • Noise nuisances from State Government properties or activities that are regulated by the State Government - Contact the Environmental Protection Agency on 1300 130 372.
