South Burnett Regional Council invites you to attend the fifth annual 2013 Australia Day Awards Ceremony.
Date: Friday, 25 Janauary 2013 (Eve of Australia Day)
Time: 6:00pm for 6:30pm start
Location: Blackbutt Town Hall, Coulson Street, Blackbutt
These awards provide the community with an opportunity to acknowledge and reward outstanding groups and individuals committed to improving the lifestyle experience in our region. The award categories that have been chosen give our individual communities equal opportunity to nominate those who have made special contributions to their local community.
2013 South Burnett Australia Day Community Events
Murgon - The Queensland Dairy & Heritage Museum Murgon have put together a full plate of Australia Day activities for you to participate in. The day commences with a breakfast at 7.00am, followed by a ceremony at 9.00am with guest speaker Ian McConnell (Australian Rural Ambassador finalist). There will be Bush Poetry as well as as live entertainment by the Stolzenberg Brothers, flag raising ceremony and morning tea (Billy Tea & Damper). Come and enjoy a morning for our nation.
Wondai - Head on down to Wondai's Coronation Park for breakfast on Australia Day from 7.00am onwards. The breakfast is always a popular event with swarms of people in attendance. This year there will be live entertainment provided by the Wondai Town & District Band, an Australian Citizen Affirmation Ceremony and a Flag Raising Ceremony to get you into the real spirit of Australia Day.
Proston - The Proston Scout Group are hosting a flag raising (parade) as well as providing free billy tea and damper at their Scout Block in Rodney Street, Proston from 2.00pm. Games and activities are also provided and cold drinks will be on sale. There will also be the offcial opening of the new Scout Den.
Kingaroy - The Kingaroy Australia Day celebrations will be held in the Town Hall Forecourt with breakfast from 7.00 am. There will be Face Painting for the children; Bush Poetry and live music by Matt Phillips as well as a Whip Cracking Display by Paul Simms. At 9.00 am the Flag Raising Ceremony will be performed by the Australian Army Cadet Unit followed by recognition of Australia Day Award winners and Affirmation Ceremony. Guest Speaker will be Martin Boettcher. A Vocal Quartet will perform during the Official Ceremony. The entertainment of the traditional Pie and Lamington Eating competitions will follow the Official Ceremony. This is a fun event for those eager to win the title of being the fastest consumer of pies (adults) or lamingtons (children). The morning will close with morning tea while watching the Cane Toad Race, all proceeds going to charity. All welcome to join in a fun packed morning.
Nanango - The Nanango Historical Society will be hosting a breakfast from 7.00am at Nanango Showgrounds. The breakfast will be followed by a Flag Raising Ceremony and singing of the Australian National Anthem.
A variety of games and entertainment have been arranged which will include the traditional dog high jump, male and female tug-o-war contests, junior tug-o-war contest, live music, tales and yarns, bush poets, watermelon, tea, scones, great coffee and ice cold soft drinks. There will be lots of children's activities available. There are a stack of prizes to be won (with thanks to local sponsors) and a great day to be had by all.
Blackbutt - The Friends of "Cultcha" Group in Blackbutt are hosting a Big Aussie Breakfast at the Blackbutt Memorial Hall between 8.00am and 11.00am. Entertainment will be provided by way of traditional Australian games including a horse shoe toss, rolling pin toss, boot toss and more. There will also be live music, on the day by the Taromeo Country Music Club.
Boondooma - The Boondooma Homestead will be hosting an evening event starting at 5:00pm with a Flag Raising Ceremony followed by a sausage sizzle. Then there will be live entertainment featuring Buddy Thomson and Lynne Bennett and others.

Cost is $5 and this includes the bus, BBQ and entertainment.
