Yallakool Tourist Park on BP Dam
If you enjoy fresh country air in the great outdoors at a place where you can relax, swim, fish, boat or water ski, then Yallakool Tourist Park on BP Dam is the spot for you!
Yallakool nestles right on the banks of the Bjelke-Petersen Dam in the middle of natural Australian bushland. It's won a prestigious Fraser Coast South Burnett Tourism Award - and it's a winner with the 55,000+ visitors who flock to it all year round as well!
You can enjoy all types of water sports at Yallakool and the fishing is also renowned. Some of the most popular catches are golden perch (or yellow belly) and Australian bass. A number of fishing competitions are held during the year. A stocked impoundment permit (obtainable from the kiosk) is needed to fish.
Yallakool Park is surrounded by the vibrant region of the South Burnett including a number of wineries/cellar doors and the townships of Murgon and Goomeri. So call into the local Visitor Information Centre to find out what there is to do and see.
Tranquil surroundings
If you are driving along the Murgon-Goomeri road, you could be excused for not realising that there is a large freshwater dam and park just off the highway. Only the signs reveal its presence.
Yallakool is situated in the middle of native bushland - and it is only as you drive along the road beside the Park, that the expanse of the Bjelke-Petersen Dam opens out before you. On most days, the only sounds you will hear are those of people enjoying themselves or the calls of the wildlife.
On the dam itself, you'll commonly find black swans, ducks, pelicans and cormorants. Koalas, wallabies and kangaroos are also regular visitors to the water's edge and the fringes of the park area.

Whether you want to stay for a day or longer, Yallakool has several accommodation options for you to choose from. You can bring your own tent and pitch it in the camping grounds, park your own caravan on a powered or unpowered site, or book one of the self-contained villas.

The Park is very well equipped and provides an area for camp oven cooking along with a refrigerator, hotplates, oven and microwave.
The kiosk (open daily 8.30am - 5.00pm) sells basic food items, ice, bait and some tackle. Kyaks are now available for hire.
Activities and facilities
If you want to just sit and enjoy the tranquility and surroundings, please do so. But when you've had enough of that, there are lots of activities to keep you entertained and busy.
You can fish from the dam edges but to get to the big ones, a boat is much better.
If you have your own equipment, you can also water ski or sail. There is an inground swimming pool adjacent to the tennis courts and adequate sheltered swimming areas are also provided for all the family.
The surrounding bushland is accessible to walkers and bird watchers.
Regular get-togethers are arranged for guests. On Tuesdays, there is a free morning tea at 10.00am. Enjoy a $1.00 sausage sizzle at 5.30pm on Thursdays. "Celebrate Friday" with free nibbles and BYO drinks at 5.00pm.
It is only a short drive from Yallakool Park to surrounding wineries/cellar doors, open gardens and numerous heritage and cultural attractions.
