04/10/2019 - Have your say – Community Consultation Sessions – 08-10-19 - Murgon to Proston Rail Trail Feasibility Study
Following South Burnett Regional Council’s successful application for funding through the Queensland Government’s Rail Trail Local Government Grants program to undertake a feasibility study on converting the disused Murgon Proston rail corridor (a distance of approximately 45 kilometres) to a rail trail, Council has engaged Mike Halliburton Associates Recreation Trail Planners to progress community consultation sessions.
Residents are invited to attend one of the following Murgon to Proston Rail Trail Feasibility Study - Community Consultation Sessions being held next Tuesday, 8 October 2019:
Murgon – Murgon Council Office - Library 8.30am
Mondure – Mondure Hall 10.30am
Hivesville – Memorial Park (opposite pub) 12.30pm
Proston – Proston Town Hall 5.30pm
South Burnett Regional Council Mayor Keith Campbell said, “The community consultation sessions are designed to seek answers to several questions such as: community support for the project; user experience; commitment to ongoing maintenance; and demonstrated benefit to the community.”
“The sessions will also address issues and concerns which will allow both the Council and community to be fully informed regarding the proposal.”
Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the project would investigate a potential rail trail along the disused rail corridor connecting Murgon, Hivesville and Proston, to connect the corridor and encourage more visitors.
“Rail trails support active, healthy lifestyles, allow for the innovative use of disused infrastructure and help preserve and manage the environment,” Mr Bailey said.
“That’s why we allocated $14 million between 2017-18 and 2020-21 to help councils build walking, bike riding and horse riding trails on disused state and local government rail corridors.”
