Garage Sale Trail Launches in the South Burnett
- South Burnett Regional Council is part of Australia’s biggest community and sustainability event, Garage Sale Trail on Saturday 20 October and Sunday 21 October
- Registrations are free and now open for households, schools, community groups and anyone who is up for a weekend of fun
- Choose to reuse on the Garage Sale Trail. It’s good for you, good for community and good for the planet too!
South Burnett households, schools and community groups are set to join over 400,000 people across the country on Saturday 20 October and Sunday 21 October as a part of the eighth annual Garage Sale Trail.
A multi award-winning community and sustainability event, Garage Sale Trail is powered by over 140 local Councils nation-wide. It is expected that this year’s weekend long event will involve more Australians than ever before, who will choose to reuse at over 15,000 garage sale events to be held across the country.
South Burnett Regional Council Mayor Keith Campbell commented that Garage Sale Trail presents a fun and social way for Council to encourage reuse and to help educate the community about why we all need take responsibility for the waste we generate.
“Garage Sale Trail also provides a way to meet your neighbours and connect with the broader community whilst decluttering and raising money for yourself or local causes. We're really pleased to be involved in this grass roots event that like the reuse movement is growing year on year.”
Platform organisers project that 1.5+ million items will be listed for sale and reuse.
And last year the average:
· Household sale made $370 via the day
· Participants connected with 50 local people
· And redistributed 250kgs of stuff
“We ask sellers to name their sale which is a bit of fun and adds a little colour to their garage sale event”, said Garage Sale Trail Co-Founder Darryl Nichols.
“Some past examples include The Almost Deceased Estate, It’s a Divorce, Garage Sale of the Century and The Only Lionel Vinyl Sale.”

ABOUT GARAGE SALE TRAIL
Garage Sale Trail is a not-for-profit social enterprise founded by Darryl Nichols and Andrew Valder. It seeks to educate Australians on the importance of reuse, and the need to take individual responsibility for the waste we generate, whilst also building stronger, more connected and more resilient communities.
Now in its eighth year nationally, the program has grown from a grass roots idea in Bondi Beach where it started in 2010. Garage Sale Trail is powered by over 140 councils nationally.
