Cr Kathy Duff appointed Rural Services Portfolio Representative

At today’s General Meeting of Council, Cr Kathy Duff was appointed Rural Services portfolio representative. Cr Duff's portfolio will now include Natural Resource Management, Rural Services, Parks and Indigenous Affairs.

Cr Duff runs her own cattle grazing and timber business from her property at Di Di Station and has firsthand experience in the rural sector and an understanding of the complex and unique challenges faced by rural communities.

Cr Duff said,  “I am honoured to have been elected portfolio representative for Rural Services. Rural areas have unique issues, often facing challenging environments, which makes targeted advocacy efforts necessary. I see this appointment as an opportunity to give a strong voice to our rural community. I look forward to working with the community to articulate their issues and to facilitate debate to most effectively address and respond to the issues affecting our rural sector.”

She added, “The South Burnett has a rich history of agriculture which has continued to this day. We are lucky that our region has a wonderful mix of rural activity and it is critical that we plan for a sustainable and viable future. By including Rural Services in my portfolio, it is a statement by Council that our rural community is and will remain a strong part of the South Burnett’s future."

The title of Rural Services was settled upon for the agricultural portfolio, as the agricultural industries within the region range from paddock to plate and takes into consideration the services and issues associated with the rural sector.
