"In designing this Logo consideration was given to the vital and growing effects the sun has on all aspects of a healthy and prosperous life. Here, it is represented in a loose design by the Swirl in traditional sun yellow colour. Under the swirl are two stripes. The red stripe represents the earth of the South Burnett, while the green represents the foliage and crops that make the region so famous and bountiful."
The new South Burnett Regional Council has 6 electoral divisions, with 6 councillors and 1 mayor. If you're not sure which division you are in and who your local councillor is, check the attached divisional map.
Mayor - Cr Ian David Carter - Cr David Carter was born and educated in Gympie and completed a Diesel Fitter apprenticeship with Widgee Shire Council in 1978. His family has strong ties to the South Burnett community, with his grandfather selecting fertile farming blocks near Murgon in the early 1900’s. The Carter home properties are located at Boondooma in the west of the South Burnett Regional Council area, and for 30 years David was a duboisia grower and manager of the family export company. His career in Local Government has spanned a total of 15 years. Elected to the Wondai Shire Council in 1994 he went on to serve as Deputy Mayor for nine years and Mayor for four years. Following amalgamation of the former shires of Kingaroy, Murgon, Nanango and Wondai, he is proud to have been elected as the first Mayor of the South Burnett Regional Council in March 2008. Mayor Carter believes that the South Burnett as a region has all the necessary attributes to ensure continued growth, both socially and economically. His overriding vision and direction are to maintain individual community identities whilst developing a culture of unity to drive the South Burnett region into the future. Projects of particular interest to David include technology, rural issues, healthy communities and community transport infrastructure. Remuneration for elected representatives
Remuneration levels for councillors are set by an independent state government convened tribunal. Prior to amalgamation this was a matter for the individual council. Each year the tribunal undertakes a review of the remuneration levels and publishes a report with their recommendations. For further information on the remuneration of councillors contact the Department of Local Government, Sport and Recreation or download the most recent Local Government Remuneration Tribunal Report. Past reports are also available via this link.
Councillors' expenses and facilities policy
Council has adopted the ‘Reimbursement of Expenses and the Provision of Facilities for Councillors Policy' in accordance with the Local Government Act 1993 section 250AT.
The policy ensures compliance with statutory requirements and community expectations relating to the payment or reimbursement of legitimate expenses and the provision of facilities. It also ensures councillors have the facilities and support necessary to perform their civic duties as elected representatives of their local communities.
